San Patricio Valley was also painted on location in San Patricio, NM during the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico Annual Paint Out in May of 2012.  It is early morning and the dew is still on the ground in front of the building in the background.

Spring Splendor was painted on location in the Sacramento Mountains near Ruidoso, NM in May 2012.  It was completed at the annual paint out with the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico.

Teton Sunset is painted from a photo taken at  the Jackson Lake Visitor Center in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.  The mountains are so majestic, rugged and awesome (yes, I know one of those overused words, but in this case it fits).

Captured Lemons is another study of lemons and reflections.  The purpose of these little studies is to practice seeing and to paint looser.  Still a struggle, but I'm working on it.

May be purchased at Daily Paintworks auction.

Reflections and Shadows was also done with a limited palette.  I discovered that two mason jars was more than twice as hard as one because of the identical size and shape and shadows within shadows.

The Study of Reflections was completed using a limited palette and a lot of squinting.  It is the first painting in a series of studies of reflections and shadows.

Tea and Fruit is the last one in the series I did after the Carol Marine class.  It was quite an education in composition, shapes, values, color, and ellipses!

Pink and Orange is another painting inspired by Carol Marine.
Pomegranite and Grapes is another still life inspired by Carol Marine.  I think the inside of a pomegranite is beautiful.  It looks like rubies and pearls.

Red and Green is another still life inspired by Carol Marine.

Friday, February 15, 2013

In January 2013 I was fortunate to take a painting class with Carol Marine.  Consequently, I have been working on still life paintings recently when the weather is too windy to paint outdoors.  This is the first of a series.

Bushwack Creek is another painting from the Kerrville Outdoor Painter Event in October of 2012.

Capitan Mountains was painted on location in Ruidoso, New Mexico during the Spring of 2012.  The sun is just coming up behind the mountains, which looks like a curtain of blue in the background. The complementary colors of blue-purple and yellow-orange caught my eye.

Capitan Gap was painted in the spring of 2012 in the Capitan Mountains of New Mexico.  The early morning light is hitting the tops of the mountain are a beautiful backdrop to the spring shrubs on the prairie.

Gnarly Cypress was painted on location in Center Point, Texas in February 2013.  It is early morning and the sun is beginning to light up the bank and trees.  This spot is one of the low water crossings along the Guadalupe River.  The water is very clear because of the limestone outcropping.

The painting of the aspen meadow was done from a photo taken this summer in early July at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  The bull elk is right behind the spruce tree on the right :).

This painting was done on location at the Paradox Retreat Ranch in Hunt, TX as part of the first Kerrville Outdoor Painter Event in October 2012.  I was captivated by the fall color and the water reflections.
